This market will resolve to “Yes” if a snap election is called in Spain by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No.” The calling of a snap election requires the formal dissolution of at least one house of the Spanish Parliament or another formal scheduling, according to the rules of the jurisdiction, of an election for all members of at least one house of the Spanish Parliament prior to their scheduled election at the end of their parliamentary term. The resolution source for this market will be official information from the government of Spain; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used. **Spain’s minority coalition government under Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez remains intact through September 2026 despite significant strains, supporting trader expectations against a snap general election this year.** Sánchez has repeatedly affirmed his intent to serve out the full term ending in August 2027, including commitments to present 2027 budgets and hold elections on the regular schedule (with possible timing in early 2027). The government operates without a stable parliamentary majority after support erosion from parties like Junts, relies on the 2023 budget for a third consecutive year following the 2025 rejection, and faces ongoing corruption investigations plus the August 2026 Ceuta migration crisis. Polls consistently show the opposition Partido Popular leading by wide margins, yet no viable alternative majority exists for a successful no-confidence motion, and Sánchez has rejected calls for early polls. While budget negotiations or further parliamentary setbacks could create pressure, recent statements and the absence of dissolution signals indicate the administration is positioned to continue into 2027 rather than trigger a 2026 vote.
