Persistent Middle East energy price pressures and revised ECB staff projections showing headline inflation averaging 3.0% in 2026 have positioned another 25 basis point rate increase as the leading trader consensus outcome for the December 2026 meeting. The September hike to a 2.50% deposit facility rate, driven by sustained geopolitical tensions and resilient euro area growth, has reinforced expectations that policymakers will prioritize returning inflation to the 2% target over an extended period. Recent analyst forecasts from Deutsche Bank, Barclays, and Morgan Stanley align with this view, citing limited evidence of second-round effects but upside risks to core prices from higher oil and gas costs. A hold remains the secondary outcome amid uncertainty over the conflict's duration.
