India's CPI inflation for fiscal 2026-27 is projected by the RBI at 5.0 percent, with quarterly paths showing a rise to 5.9 percent in Q3 before moderating, supporting the 90 percent market-implied probability on the 4.50 percent-plus outcome. Recent July 2026 readings printed at 4.45 percent, up from 4.38 percent in June, reflecting pass-through from higher food and energy prices amid Middle East supply pressures and rupee depreciation. Core inflation excluding food and fuel remains contained near 3.9 percent, indicating limited demand-side generalization so far. Professional forecasters' median aligns with the RBI's 5.0 percent annual estimate, while the policy repo rate stays at 5.25 percent with risks viewed as balanced. Upcoming data releases and monsoon impacts will influence the final annual average.
