Strong investor opposition to the SEC’s May 2026 proposal for optional semiannual reporting on new Form 10-S has anchored the 78% market-implied odds against removal of the quarterly requirement. Over 5,000 to 68,000 comments, many from institutional investors and the Investor Advisory Committee, highlighted risks to timely disclosure, capital allocation efficiency, and fraud prevention under Sarbanes-Oxley-era controls. Although Chairman Atkins and the Trump administration have signaled intent to finalize some version of the rule, the comment-driven review process, potential legal challenges, and absence of an adopting release keep near-term implementation uncertain. Key upcoming catalysts include the timing of any final rule—potentially slipping into 2027—and any modifications to address market-structure concerns.

This market will resolve to "Yes" if the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission votes to approve a rule or otherwise formally enacts a policy that removes the requirement for publicly traded companies to file quarterly earnings reports by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No".
Narrow company or industry specific removals of quarterly earnings requirements will not qualify. Likewise a general removal of the rules which maintains the quarterly reporting requirement for specific companies will qualify.
Any approving vote on a rule change that reduces the requirement to report earnings from quarterly to a less frequent cadence will qualify.
The primary resolution source will be official information from the SEC; however, a consensus of credible reporting will also be used.
