Jake Ferguson enters the 2026 NFL season as the Dallas Cowboys' clear starting tight end and primary red-zone option behind quarterback Dak Prescott, building on his 2025 career-high 82 receptions and eight touchdowns. Recent contract restructuring created cap flexibility without altering his roster status, while Week 1 production remained limited at two catches for six yards amid heavy usage of wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. His average depth of target has declined over three seasons, contributing to lower yards per catch, though consistent snap shares near 65-76% support steady volume. Key variables include offensive line health, Prescott's accuracy on intermediate routes, and how the passing game distributes targets over a full 17-game schedule against varying defenses.
