Amazon’s 2026 capital expenditure guidance stands at approximately $220 billion after a $20 billion increase announced with second-quarter results on July 30, driven primarily by higher memory costs and robust generative AI demand for AWS infrastructure. Year-to-date property and equipment purchases reached roughly $173 billion through June, contributing to a trailing-twelve-month free cash flow outflow of $7.6 billion. AWS revenue grew 36.7% year-over-year to a $169 billion annualized run rate, with AI services and custom chips each exceeding $25 billion run rates, while the backlog expanded to $496 billion. CEO Andy Jassy emphasized that even this elevated spend will leave capacity short of 2026 demand, with the pattern likely persisting into 2027 and visible 2028 commitments already in place. Q3 earnings, expected in late October, represent the next potential catalyst for any further revisions.
