Official National Weather Service observations from Chicago-O'Hare, the primary reference station, recorded a maximum temperature of 87°F on August 31, 2026—well above the 80°F normal but below historical extremes like the 99°F record from 1953. A late-summer heat dome drove the warmth through southerly flow and elevated dew points, yet daytime showers, thunderstorms, and cloud cover limited further intensification. This aligns directly with the market-implied 86-87°F outcome at near-certainty. Resolution could shift only in the unlikely event of station-specific data revisions or alternative measurement protocols overriding the official report.
