Incumbent Republican Pete Sessions holds a commanding lead in Texas’s 17th congressional district for the November 2026 general election, backed by consistent Solid or Safe Republican ratings from forecasters such as Cook, Sabato, and Inside Elections. The seat’s established Republican tilt, reflected in Donald Trump’s double-digit margin there in 2024 and reinforced by mid-decade redistricting that strengthened GOP advantages statewide, underpins trader consensus around 93 percent for a Republican win. Sessions advanced unopposed in the March primary, while Democrat Casey Shepard emerged from her May runoff to face structural headwinds typical of the district. Late developments such as a major scandal involving the incumbent, a serious health event, or a sharp national swing in turnout patterns could narrow the gap, though none have materialized in recent months.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
