Pete Stauber holds a strong position in Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District heading into the November 3 general election, backed by the seat’s R+7 partisan voting index and his consistent prior victories, including a 58% share in 2024. Both candidates cleared their August 11 primaries with wide margins—Stauber defeating a minor challenger and Trina Swanson securing the Democratic nomination—leaving little uncertainty about the matchup. Nonpartisan forecasters rate the race Safe or Likely Republican, reflecting the district’s rural and Iron Range base plus the incumbent’s established campaign infrastructure. Swanson’s background as a former federal immigration official and her focus on local economic issues have not yet produced measurable shifts in the race’s fundamentals. With roughly seven weeks remaining, trader consensus aligns with the structural Republican advantage and absence of late-breaking developments that would typically narrow the gap.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
