**Bekim Sejdiu leads at 77.5% as the consensus candidate backed by Vetevendosje (VV) and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK).** On August 31, 2026, Prime Minister Albin Kurti and LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku announced their agreement on Sejdiu—a former Constitutional Court judge, University of Pristina law professor, and diplomat who served as ambassador to Turkey and consul general in New York—as the joint nominee to break the prolonged institutional deadlock. This deal, reached after weeks of talks following the June 7 snap parliamentary election, positions the parties to secure the 80 votes needed in the first two rounds (or a simple majority of 61 in a third round) with support from minority parties. Sejdiu is framed as a non-partisan figure acceptable across the main blocs, directly elevating his implied probability in trader assessments. Earlier candidates and figures such as Vjosa Osmani (term ended April 2026), Albulena Haxhiu (acting president), Glauk Konjufca, and others saw their prospects fade amid repeated failures to reach the required parliamentary threshold, which triggered the latest snap vote and extended the impasse. The agreement’s timing and cross-party backing explain the sharp shift in market pricing, with traders assigning high likelihood to Sejdiu’s confirmation once parliament convenes.
