Israeli ground operations in southern Lebanon, part of the 2026 conflict with Hezbollah, advanced past the Litani River toward Nabatieh strongholds in late May, with reports of troops nearing Choukine before a US-brokered framework agreement took effect in mid-June. That accord outlined phased Israeli redeployments from pilot zones alongside Lebanese army deployment to enforce security, yet Israeli forces have maintained an expanded security zone up to 10 km deep, conducting demolitions, artillery strikes, and searches that yielded Hezbollah rocket launchers as recently as mid-September. The Lebanese army has documented thousands of violations since the June 26 deal, while Israeli statements emphasize preparations for prolonged presence until threats are neutralized. Trader assessments hinge on whether confirmed ground troop entry into the Choukine municipality meets market criteria before resolution deadlines amid these ongoing frictions and diplomatic timelines.
