**Trader consensus heavily favors 80–99 tornadoes for August 2026 at 84% implied probability, reflecting preliminary Storm Prediction Center counts of 89 through August 25 amid typical late-summer conditions.** Atmospheric instability from moderate convective available potential energy (CAPE) and modest wind shear across the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes has produced scattered supercells and brief tornadoes, without the strong jet-stream dynamics or Gulf moisture surges that drive higher counts. Mid-August severe outbreaks, including 16 confirmed tornadoes in Ohio from derechos and thunderstorms, contributed notably but remained localized. Historical August averages range 81–94, and current data plus quiet late-month forecasts from the National Weather Service align closely with this band, limiting upside risk from tropical remnants or widespread outbreaks. Final verification after damage surveys will determine resolution.
