The open mayoral seat in Saanich, following incumbent Dean Murdock’s decision not to seek re-election, has produced a competitive four-candidate field ahead of the October 17 vote. Trader pricing reflects a tight contest among experienced local figures, with Zac de Vries, Karen Harper, and Rishi Sharma holding the clearest positioning. De Vries, a two-term councillor and regional housing board chair, launched his campaign in June with visible local political support. Harper, a long-serving councillor, emphasizes fiscal stewardship and development. Sharma, backed by the Save Our Saanich group, highlights planning transparency and environmental priorities. A non-binding amalgamation question with Victoria on the ballot adds another variable that could influence turnout and preferences in the final weeks.
