Amazon’s 2026 capital expenditure outlook is shaped by rapid AI-driven demand for AWS infrastructure, including data centers, servers, and custom silicon. In its July 30, 2026 earnings release, management raised full-year cash capex guidance from an initial $200 billion to $220 billion, citing higher memory costs and the need to address capacity shortfalls. Second-quarter cash capex reached $53.1 billion, contributing to negative trailing free cash flow of $7.6 billion as spending outpaced operating cash generation of $161.4 billion. AWS revenue grew 37% year-over-year to a $169 billion annualized run rate, with a $496 billion backlog signaling contracted demand extending into 2027 and 2028. Management has indicated that even the updated $220 billion level will leave capacity constrained through next year, with Q3 results expected in late October likely providing the next update on spending trajectory and monetization progress.
