Recent strength in U.S. services activity, highlighted by the August ISM Services PMI rising to 55.4 from July’s 54.1 and beating consensus, anchors trader expectations for September near the mid-54 range. Business activity and new orders surged above 60 while backlogs and inventories expanded, reflecting resilient demand amid positive summer seasonality. Persistent headwinds, including contracting employment at 47.8 for a second month, elevated prices paid at a four-year high of 72.6 driven by tariffs and Middle East supply disruptions, and cautious hiring trends, introduce downside risks toward the 12-month average near 53.7. Market-implied probabilities across the 54.0–55.9 bins capture this balance between sustained momentum and potential moderation ahead of the early-October release.
