This market will resolve according to the total precipitation in mm in Hong Kong between August 1 and August 31, 2026, according to the Hong Kong Observatory. If the reported data falls exactly between two brackets, this market will resolve to the higher bracket. The resolution source for this market will be the Hong Kong Observatory, specifically the "Total Rainfall (mm)" figure for all days in August 2026 under the "Daily Extract" at the https://www.weather.gov.hk/en/cis/climat.htm link once figures are finalized for the specified range. If the relevant data is not available by November 7, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, another credible resolution source will be chosen. The resolution source for this market measures precipitation to 1 decimal place (e.g., 1.5), thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving this market. Any revisions to precipitation recorded after data is finalized for this market's timeframe will not be considered for this market's resolution.**Below-average August rainfall in Hong Kong, confirmed by official observations, has driven overwhelming trader consensus toward the <425 mm outcome at 94.8% implied probability.** Hong Kong Observatory data for August 2026 record a monthly total of approximately 234–355 mm at the headquarters station—well below the 1991–2020 climatological normal of 453 mm and comfortably under the 425 mm threshold. This deficit occurred despite isolated heavy shower episodes (including over 100 mm in parts of the territory during early-month events and localized peaks exceeding 40–70 mm later), as the overall monsoon trough activity and tropical cyclone influences remained limited. Record-breaking high temperatures across the month further indicate persistent stable, drier air masses that suppressed widespread convective rainfall typical of the South China Sea summer monsoon regime. The market-implied odds reflect this verified observational evidence from authoritative monitoring sources, with traders incorporating real-time station data and forecast trends showing minimal additional accumulation possible before month-end. A realistic challenge would require a substantial upward revision in the final official HKO tally—unlikely given the consistency across daily extracts—or resolution criteria based on an alternative station reading that diverged markedly higher. Continued dry conditions through the final hours of August 31 reinforce the strong positioning.
