This market will resolve to "Yes" if the European Union's long-term sovereign credit letter rating is downgraded by any of the three major credit rating agencies (S&P, Moody's, Fitch) at any point between market creation and December 31, 2026 11:59pm ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". The resolution source for this market will be official information from Standard & Poor's, Moody's, or Fitch, however a consensus of credible reporting will also be used.Recent affirmations of the EU's AAA/Aaa ratings with stable outlooks by Fitch, Moody's, and Scope through early 2026 reflect strong institutional backing, preferred creditor status, and legal obligations under the EU budget to service debt. These factors outweigh modest projected rises in EU debt-to-GDP toward 85% by end-2027 and fiscal strains in high-debt members like France and Belgium, where individual sovereign ratings have faced pressure but have not spilled over. Market-implied odds at 69% for no downgrade price in the absence of negative outlooks or watches, supported by contained primary deficits and access to funding at favorable spreads. Key near-term catalysts include France's 2027 budget process and any shifts in ECB policy or euro area growth data.
