Recent polls in São Paulo, including Datafolha (August 18–21) and Quaest (August 21–24), show Flavio Bolsonaro (PL) leading or tied with incumbent President Lula (PT) in first-round voting intentions for the October 2026 presidential election, with Flavio at 30–38% and Lula at 29–33%. This state-level edge for the PL senator, driven by stronger right-leaning support in Brazil’s largest electorate, underpins trader consensus favoring him for first place. Other candidates such as Ronaldo Caiado, Romeu Zema, Renan Santos, and Augusto Cury register in the low single digits, consistent with their limited polling in the state. The formal campaign period, including the start of free television and radio time in late August, has not yet produced shifts that alter these São Paulo-specific patterns. Lula maintains stronger national positioning outside the Southeast, but current evidence keeps the SP outcome tightly linked to the two frontrunners.
