Recent August CPI data at 3.4% year-over-year, driven by a 0.4% seasonally adjusted monthly rise and a 3.9% gasoline surge, anchors trader expectations for September amid ongoing energy volatility and shelter persistence. Core CPI held at 2.4%, yet tariff pass-through and AI-driven demand for electronics and software continue to support goods prices, while services inflation reflects resilient wages. Market-implied odds cluster tightly around 3.5–3.6% as participants weigh potential energy stabilization against these structural factors ahead of the October release. Fed communications and incoming labor data will likely influence near-term repricing.
