This market will resolve to "Yes" if the European Union's long-term sovereign credit letter rating is downgraded by any of the three major credit rating agencies (S&P, Moody's, Fitch) at any point between market creation and December 31, 2026 11:59pm ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". The resolution source for this market will be official information from Standard & Poor's, Moody's, or Fitch, however a consensus of credible reporting will also be used.Recent affirmations of the European Union’s AAA or equivalent ratings with Stable Outlooks by Fitch, Moody’s, Scope, and S&P through mid-2026 underpin the 71% market-implied probability against a downgrade before 2027. The supranational credit profile benefits from strong member-state backing, particularly from AAA-rated contributors like Germany, a legally enshrined debt-service priority, and expanded own-resources ceilings that cover projected debt service even as EU bonds approach or exceed EUR 1 trillion by end-2027. While several sovereigns face rising debt-to-GDP ratios and fiscal pressures, these have not spilled over to the EU level, and agencies continue to emphasize institutional resilience and preferred-creditor status. Key near-term catalysts include the 2027 budget process and any further sovereign rating actions, yet current consensus points to balanced risks over the next 12–18 months.
