Chou Chun-mi, the Democratic Progressive Party incumbent seeking re-election as Pingtung County magistrate on November 28, 2026, holds a dominant position in trader assessments. She defeated the same Kuomintang challenger, Legislator Su Ching-chuan, by a narrow margin in 2022 and received her party's nomination in February 2026. Su, formally nominated by the KMT in December 2025, faces an ongoing criminal indictment stemming from a 2024 hospital fire that killed nine people, which prosecutors reopened after an earlier deferred prosecution decision. This legal development, combined with Chou's record of attracting technology investments and advancing local infrastructure and social programs, underpins the wide gap in implied probabilities between the two main candidates in this rematch. Candidate registration opens in late August, with no other contenders registering significant support.
