Major technology firms have sustained elevated layoff volumes in 2026 through AI-driven restructuring, with year-to-date totals already reaching 172,000–187,000 roles across trackers such as layoffhedge and TrueUp—on pace to match or exceed 2025 full-year figures of roughly 127,000–246,000. Oracle’s 30,000-person cut, Meta’s 16,000, Amazon’s 16,000 corporate reductions, and similar moves at Dell, Microsoft, and Intel explicitly cite artificial intelligence automation replacing routine engineering, support, and middle-management work. Recent September announcements from Uber, PayPal, and The Trade Desk extend the trend. While a sharp Q4 slowdown or stronger revenue growth could moderate the final tally, the consistent pace of AI-related efficiency programs supports the 91% market-implied odds for higher annual layoffs.
