Recent energy price volatility and the 0.4% August CPI print have kept trader-implied odds tightly clustered between 0.5% and 0.6% month-over-month for September, with each outcome holding roughly 30-35% probability. Elevated gasoline and broader energy components, influenced by ongoing geopolitical supply pressures, continue to dominate headline readings, while shelter costs show modest moderation and core goods remain mixed. The Federal Reserve’s September 16 projections highlighted upside inflation risks, reinforcing expectations for a firmer September print ahead of the October 14 release. Markets price these probabilities as aggregated trader consensus backed by real capital, reflecting uncertainty over whether energy-driven gains will persist or ease in the final weeks of the month.
