Lin Kuo-chang, the Democratic Progressive Party nominee and a Yilan-based lawyer with deep local roots, holds the lead at 56% in trader pricing for the November 28, 2026 Yilan County Magistrate election, ahead of Kuomintang legislator Wu Tsung-hsien at 36.5% and lower-probability alternatives including Chen Wan-hui and Chang Sheng-te. The contest remains competitive because the county has historically leaned toward the DPP, yet the KMT held the office for two terms under the now-suspended incumbent Lin Tzu-miao, whose corruption conviction disrupted succession plans and prompted the opposition alliance to consolidate behind Wu after a joint KMT-TPP primary poll. Recent candidate registration, which opened August 31, has not yet produced major new developments, while polls show Lin maintaining a modest edge tied to his non-factional profile and local ties versus Wu’s limited prior connection to the county. Late-cycle factors such as turnout patterns, further opposition coordination, or national political shifts could still narrow or widen the gap before election day.
