France's fragmented National Assembly, resulting from the inconclusive 2024 snap legislative elections, has produced repeated minority governments under prime ministers including Barnier, Bayrou, and Lecornu, each vulnerable to no-confidence votes over budgets and fiscal measures. Persistent deadlock, with no stable majority among centrists, the left-wing NFP alliance, and the National Rally, has fueled ongoing speculation about an early dissolution under Article 12 before the April-May 2027 presidential contest. As of early September 2026, the Lecornu government faces acute pressure ahead of the October budget deadline amid opposition demands for fresh legislative polls, while Macron has at times ruled out immediate dissolution to prioritize stability. Trader focus centers on whether budget fights or coalition breakdowns will force a snap vote in the coming months, weighed against the constitutional timeline and positioning by major parties for the 2027 presidential race.
