Taiwanese local elections are scheduled to be held on November 28, 2026. This market will resolve according to the candidate who becomes the next Magistrate of Yilan County as a result of this election. Temporary, interim, or placeholder Magistrates appointed before the election will not be considered. If the result of this election isn't known, or no candidate has been elected, by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market will resolve to "Other". This market will resolve based on the results of the elections as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the Taiwanese government, specifically the Central Election Commission (https://db.cec.gov.tw/).**Lin Kuo-chang leads the Yilan County magistrate race at 56% in the market, ahead of Wu Tsung-hsien at 36.5%, with Chen Wan-hui at 3.4% and Chang Sheng-te at 1.5%.** The DPP nominee benefits from deep local roots as a longtime Yilan lawyer recruited by the party center, enabling rapid factional consolidation in a county that leaned green nationally but stayed under KMT control in 2018 and 2022. Traders price this advantage against Wu, the KMT legislator and former prosecutor selected after winning the internal primary over county council speaker Chang Sheng-te and then the joint KMT-TPP poll over Chen Wan-hui. Recent steps toward opposition coordination—Chen and Chang publicly backing Wu ahead of candidate registration opening August 31—have stabilized the KMT-TPP side, yet the incumbent KMT magistrate’s ongoing corruption conviction and suspension continue to complicate succession. Polls show the race remains close, with Lin typically ahead by small margins, reflecting the impact of local ties versus organized opposition efforts ahead of the November 28 vote.
