Big Tech's record AI capital expenditures—exceeding $1 trillion across hyperscalers like Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and Meta in 2025–2026—have fueled trader focus on bubble risks, amplified by the Bank for International Settlements' June 2026 report warning of dot-com-style overinvestment and potential pullbacks if productivity gains fail to materialize. Supply constraints in power, chips, and grids, alongside rising debt issuance and mixed returns on large language model deployments, have sustained debate over whether returns justify the spending. Macquarie analysts later highlighted a pattern of sequential "rolling bubbles" across the AI stack rather than one abrupt collapse, while Chinese model competition and corporate earnings scrutiny add further variables. Key near-term catalysts include upcoming quarterly results and any shifts in enterprise adoption metrics that could clarify revenue trajectories.
