Recent controversies surrounding incumbent Republican Derrick Van Orden, including his August 2026 outburst against Capitol pages that drew bipartisan criticism, have weighed on his standing in this competitive western Wisconsin district. Democrat Rebecca Cooke secured her nomination in the August primary with a strong fundraising edge and now leads in available polling averages as the rematch of the 2024 contest, where Van Orden prevailed by under three points. Race ratings from nonpartisan analysts remain mostly toss-up with one lean Democratic, reflecting the seat's narrow margins and sensitivity to candidate-specific developments. Upcoming debates and late-cycle voter outreach could still shift dynamics before November 3.
