Incumbent Chung Tung-chin holds a commanding position in the Miaoli County magistrate race, with trader consensus reflecting his status as the clear frontrunner ahead of the November 28, 2026, local elections. Rejoining the Kuomintang in September 2025 after winning as an independent in 2022 has secured unified party backing and eliminated intra-bloc challenges in this traditionally KMT-leaning county. Recent 2026 surveys show his overall approval at 75.6 percent with satisfaction exceeding 80 percent in areas such as tourism, social welfare, and economic development, bolstering expectations of re-election. The DPP's November 2025 nomination of county councilor Chen Pin-an provides the main opposition but faces structural headwinds in a county with limited pan-green support historically. Candidate registration opening on August 31 could introduce additional contenders, though none currently appear positioned to alter the outcome significantly.
