Eurozone HICP inflation for 2026 is trading with a 66.2% implied probability above 3.1%, reflecting the dominant impact of elevated energy prices stemming from Middle East geopolitical tensions. Eurosystem staff projections from June place annual headline inflation at 3.0%, up 0.4 percentage points from prior estimates, with quarterly peaks near 3.4% in late 2026 driven by direct and indirect energy pass-through. July’s 2.9% reading and August flash estimates near 3.0–3.3% underscore the upward trajectory, though core measures remain closer to 2.5%. Professional forecasters’ surveys cluster around 2.7%, yet real-money positioning favors the higher path amid persistent base effects. Key near-term catalysts include the September 1 preliminary August data and the ECB’s September policy meeting, where rate decisions will hinge on whether energy-driven pressures broaden.
