The West Vancouver mayoral race remains tightly contested ahead of the October 17, 2026, municipal election, with Kirk LaPointe and incumbent Mark Sager as the leading declared contenders and probabilities reflecting fragmented trader expectations amid a growing field. LaPointe, a veteran journalist and former Vancouver mayoral candidate, has emphasized fiscal discipline, greater public consultation on taxes and spending, and oversight of regional issues such as the over-budget North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant. Sager highlights his record on waterfront revitalization, parks, housing plans, and financial management while seeking a second term. The mid-August entry of Councillor Sharon Thompson as a third option, citing resident desire for an alternative to Sager, has further split potential support. Nomination deadlines in early September and the absence of public polling keep outcomes uncertain, with additional candidates likely to influence final vote shares.
