Recent August CPI data at 3.4% year-over-year, with core rising 0.3% month-over-month against a 0.2% consensus, has anchored trader expectations for the September print near 3.4–3.6%. Elevated gasoline and energy prices from geopolitical tensions, combined with rising consumer inflation expectations to 4.6%, support the upper end of the range while Cleveland Fed nowcasts hover at 3.43%. The closely matched probabilities reflect uncertainty over energy volatility versus potential moderation in shelter and core services. The September 15–16 FOMC meeting and October 14 CPI release represent key near-term catalysts that could shift implied probabilities as fresh data arrives.
