This market will resolve to "Yes" if Russia conducts a nuclear test by the listed date (ET). Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". A nuclear test is defined as the intentional non-combat detonation of a device by Russia that produces a nuclear chain reaction (fission or fusion), regardless of yield. Accidents, radiological dispersal devices (bombs that spread radioactive material using conventional explosives such as "dirty bombs"), or actions by third parties will not count toward this market's resolution. Tests not explicitly claimed by Russia may still qualify if a clear consensus of credible reporting attributes the nuclear detonation to Russia. For example, an unclaimed nuclear test analogous to the 1979 "Vela Incident" would count if credible reporting attributes it to Russia. The resolution source for this market will be a broad consensus of credible reporting.Russia maintains a moratorium on explosive nuclear tests since 1991 while preparing infrastructure at the Novaya Zemlya site and having withdrawn CTBT ratification in 2023 to preserve parity options. In late 2025, following U.S. statements on testing, President Putin directed agencies to develop proposals for possible resumption, with defense officials highlighting readiness at the Arctic facility, though officials framed the step as conditional analysis rather than an immediate decision. Recent months have featured multiple ICBM and strategic missile launches, including Sarmat and mobile systems in 2026, alongside large-scale nuclear force exercises, but no confirmed underground nuclear detonations. Diplomatic signals continue to tie any Russian test to U.S. actions, amid warnings from the UN about escalation risks and the absence of New START constraints. Traders assess probabilities based on whether these preparations translate into an actual test within the market’s timeframe.
