The race for North Carolina's 1st Congressional District pits Democratic incumbent Don Davis against Republican challenger Laurie Buckhout in a November 2026 rematch. Redistricting completed in late 2025 shifted the district's boundaries to favor Republicans more strongly than in 2024, prompting forecasters to rate the contest Lean Republican or a toss-up. Buckhout secured the GOP nomination in the March primary after a competitive field. Polling has remained close, with recent surveys showing Davis holding narrow leads or ties amid competitive fundraising. Traders assign Davis the leading position, consistent with typical incumbency effects and his established local profile in this rural, agricultural area, even as national midterm dynamics and the adjusted map create pathways for either outcome.

A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
